Lie, Trygve
(16 jul. 1896, Cristianía, Noruega–30 dic. 1968, Geilo).

Primer Secretario General de las Naciones Unidas (1946–52). Después de estudiar derecho en la Universidad de Cristianía (Oslo), Lie fue un miembro activo del partido laborista noruego antes de ser designado ministro de relaciones exteriores del gobierno noruego en el exilio durante la segunda guerra mundial. Como miembro de la delegación noruega a la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas para la Organización Internacional (1945), ayudó a redactar las normas que regulan el Consejo de Seguridad de las Naciones Unidas. Como Secretario General, ayudó a garantizar el retiro de las tropas soviéticas de Irán; también le tocó intervenir en la primera guerra árabe-israelí y en el conflicto entre India y Pakistán por Cachemira. La Unión Soviética cesó de prestarle colaboración después de que apoyó la intervención de las Naciones Unidas en la guerra de Corea, y su eficacia se vio obstaculizada aún más por acusaciones de políticos anticomunistas de EE.UU. que afirmaban que la secretaría había empleado a subversivos. Renunció en 1952.
